Virat Kohli, a key player in the Indian batting lineup, has chosen to withdraw from the initial two Tests against England due to personal reasons, as disclosed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah conveyed the decision in a statement, advising fans and media to refrain from speculating about the specifics of Virat Kohli’s personal situation.
“Virat Kohli has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be excused from the initial two Tests of the upcoming IDFC First Bank Test series against England, citing personal reasons,” confirmed Jay Shah.
BCCI highlighted that Virat Kohli had talked over his decision with team captain Rohit Sharma and the rest of the team management.
“Virat has communicated with captain Rohit Sharma, the team management, and the selectors, emphasizing that despite his unwavering commitment to representing the country, specific personal situations require his presence and full attention,” added the BCCI statement.
A replacement for Virat Kohli is expected to be announced by the board soon.
The five-match series against England is slated to begin on January 25 in Hyderabad.
