Rahul Gandhi and additional Congress leaders faced charges from Assam Police, including accusations of violence, provocation, and causing damage to public property, among other offenses.

On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi continued his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra into Assam from Barpeta, overcoming a previous roadblock in entering Guwahati city. The Assam Police booked several Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal, on charges that included violence, provocation, damage to public property, and assault on police personnel.

Before commencing the 11th day of the Yatra, Rahul Gandhi addressed a gathering and once again launched an attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, branding him as “the most corrupt CM.

Rahul Gandhi’s face-off with the Assam government escalates.

The Congress alleges that the BJP-led Assam government is attempting to obstruct their Yatra since it began in the state on Thursday. The conflict between the state government and the Congress reached a new level of intensity as party workers clashed when they were prevented from entering Guwahati.

Chief Minister Sarma instructed the state Director General of Police (DGP) to file a case against the Congress MP, accusing him of “provoking the crowd.”Naxalite tactics” were alien to Assam’s culture,” the chief minister said in a post on social platform X.

On Tuesday, the Guwahati Police took the initiative to register an FIR against Mr. Gandhi and other leaders for their alleged involvement in wanton acts of violence in the state capital.

In a retaliatory move, Gandhi countered Sarma’s accusations during a press conference, branding him as one of the most corrupt chief ministers in the country.

“Clear problem in Assam, chief minister of this state one of the most corrupt CMs in the country… What the Assam CM is doing against the yatra is actually helping the yatra,” Gandhi added.

“I don’t know how Himanta Biswa Sarma got the idea that he can intimidate me by filing cases. File as many cases as you can. File 25 more cases, you can’t intimidate me. BJP-RSS can’t intimidate me”, he added.

“The BJP-RSS wants to wipe out the language, culture, and history of Assam. They want to run Assam from Nagpur, but we will not allow it. Assam will be run from Assam only”, Mr Gandhi said.

“We are getting the publicity that we may not have got otherwise. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has become a main issue in Assam. Preventing from visiting the temple and college… it is their style. Intimidation tactics, we are not intimidated by them, we are not afraid of them,” he added.
