With a 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth, Liverpool increased their lead over the top team in the Premier League to five points. They have now won 14 of their last 16 league games. Mohamed Salah’s absence doesn’t stop the Reds from winning. With 21 games played, Liverpool has 48 points, while the champions, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Aston Villa, have 43 points.
After a Boaring first half with limited goal-scoring opportunities, the visitors found their game, as demonstrated by the two goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota after the break.
Nunez opened the score in the 49th minute following a deft passing that opened up Bournemouth’s defense, and Jota’s two outstanding goals in the 70th and 79th minutes put the game beyond the hosts’ reach. Nunez’s volleyed second goal in stoppage time was assisted by Joe Gomez, making him the first player for a Premier League team to have 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season.
Although Klopp was not pleased with what he saw in the first half, he was satisfied that his team demonstrated their offensive prowess despite Mohamed Salah, their top scorer, being absent.
Klopp said, “I told them at halftime it was not great and we were not flexible enough in the first half.” Klopp made this statement to Sky Sports.
We changed formation in the second half and became much more fluid. After we scored the goal, everything appeared different. Darwin and Diogo both benefit greatly from it.
