Joe Root Achieves Milestone in World Test Championship
Star English batsman Joe Root etched his name in the history books on Thursday (January 25) during Day 1 of the first Test between India and England at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Batting at No. 4, Root became the first batsman in history to amass 4000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC). His historic achievement came as he reached the milestone with a double on the fifth ball of the 21st over, bowled by Axar Patel.
Root Surpasses Tendulkar to Become Highest Run-Getter in Indo-England Tests
In addition to his WTC milestone, Root created history by becoming the highest run-getter in Test matches played between India and England. Surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Root claimed the No. 1 position in the elite list by scoring 2535 runs in 32 Tests against England. Needing just 10 runs to surpass Tendulkar’s tally, Root achieved the feat during the first session of the opening day of the first Test.
England’s Strategy and Playing XI
England’s skipper Ben Stokes won the toss in the ongoing first Test and opted to bat first. Noteworthy is the inclusion of three specialist spinners in England’s playing XI. On the other hand, India has opted for a three-man spin attack and two pacers in the form of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
