India vs England 1st Test Day 2: Ind vs Eng, Y Jaiswal, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have led India to 421 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and a lead of 175 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The second day of the opening Test match between India and England witnessed a dominant performance from the Indian batting lineup. KL Rahul, who has been in splendid form, shared insights into his batting experience in the middle-order, highlighting the strategic advantage it brings. India’s innings closed at 421 for 7, securing a lead of 175 runs over England’s first-innings total of 246.
KL Rahul’s Middle-Order Experience: KL Rahul expressed his enjoyment of batting in the middle-order, emphasizing the benefits of having time to observe the pitch, bowlers, and strategically plan innings. Having recently regained confidence with a century in South Africa and having played consistently for the past 6-7 months post-injury, Rahul aimed to stay positive and capitalize on the slower pitch conditions against England.
The initial day had witnessed India’s composed response to England’s first-innings total of 246, with the team scoring 119/1. The standout performer on Day 1 was Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten at 76.
Day 2 began with India positioned at 119/1, and the overnight pair of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal eager to build on their partnership. However, England’s Joe Root and Tom Hartley struck early blows, dismissing Jaiswal (80) and Gill (23) to provide a glimmer of hope for the visitors.
The onus then fell on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who showcased resilience and skill, forming a crucial partnership. By the lunch break, India had reached a steady 222/3 in 50 overs, with Rahul (55) and Iyer (34) at the crease.
The second session, however, saw a change in momentum as Rehan Ahmed claimed Iyer’s wicket, and Hartley dismissed Rahul for a well-crafted 86. Ravindra Jadeja (81*) then took center stage, forming a crucial partnership with Srikar Bharat (41).
Despite the unfortunate run-out of Ashwin, Jadeja found a reliable partner in Axar Patel (35*). Their unbroken eighth-wicket stand added 63 runs to the total, guiding India to a formidable position by the end of the day. The team’s score stood at 421/7 in 110 overs.
England’s bowling attack, led by Tom Hartley and Joe Root, managed to claim two wickets each, while Jack Leach and Rehan Ahmed chipped in with one apiece.
Jadeja’s innings proved pivotal, especially after the departure of Rahul, as he adeptly adjusted his approach, combining caution with calculated aggression. The left-hander’s well-earned fifty and Patel’s resilient contribution underscored India’s dominance.
As the match heads into the third day, England faces a daunting task of countering India’s substantial lead. The battle for supremacy promises more excitement, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to this crucial Test encounter.
