GATE Marks Vs Scores Vs Rank
Aspiring candidates for the GATE 2024 examination should note the distinction between GATE marks, scores, and ranks. GATE marks represent the candidate’s raw score out of a maximum of 100. GATE scores, however, are calculated through a normalization process and are scaled out of 1000. Candidates are assigned a GATE rank based on their scores.
GATE Normalisation
GATE 2024 will be conducted in multiple sittings, introducing uncertainties such as varying student attendance, fluctuating difficulty levels, and different weightages assigned to specific topics. As a result, the normalization of scores becomes essential to account for these factors and ensure fairness, especially when the overall difficulty level of the paper undergoes changes.
