Delhi’s Kalkaji Mandir:

In a devastating incident that unfolded during a Mata Jagran at Delhi’s renowned Kalkaji Mandir, a wooden and iron-framed stage collapsed, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to 17 others. The incident occurred during the performance of singer B Praak at the temple’s Mahant Parisar.

As per reports from the Delhi Police, the elevated platform, set up for the families of organizers and VIPs, crumbled around 12:30 am when enthusiastic devotees climbed onto the stage during hymns. The stage, unable to bear the sudden weight, collapsed, causing injuries to those sitting below the platform.

Event Without Permission:

Despite the gathering of around 1500-1600 people for the overnight awakening ritual of Goddess Durga, the event was held without official permission. The police deployed sufficient staff to maintain law and order, but no approval had been granted for the event.

Casualties and Injuries:

One woman lost her life, and 17 others sustained injuries, with some admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre, Safdarjung Hospital, and MAX Hospital. The injured are reported to be in stable condition, although some suffered fractures.

Police Investigation and Action:

The Delhi Police’s crime team visited the site, and a case under sections 337/304A/188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the event organizers. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.

Statements and Expressions of Grief:

Singer B Praak, who was present at the event, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a video message on his Instagram, he highlighted the crucial role of event management and termed the occurrence as extremely unfortunate.
