The day following his brother Sarfaraz’s inclusion in the Indian Test team, young Musheer Khan showcased a spectacular innings against New Zealand in the U19 World Cup 2024. Musheer’s outstanding performance unfolded during the Super Six stage, contributing significantly to India’s formidable target in the tournament.
Entering the crease in the fifth over with India at 28/1, the right-hander, Musheer Khan, steadied the ship after star opener Arshin Kulkarni’s early dismissal with just 9 runs on the board. Partnering with opener Adarsh Singh, Musheer orchestrated a resilient 77-run partnership for the second wicket. Following Adarsh’s departure in the 18th over, Musheer exhibited patience and skill to navigate through a challenging bowling attack from the Kiwis, once again taking charge of building the innings.

In a statement to ESPNcricinfo, Sarfaraz spoke highly of his younger brother, Musheer, saying, “He’s (Musheer) a better batter than me. I’m not saying this because he’s my brother. Sometimes, I may be struggling but watching his technique and trying to work out what he’s doing would give me confidence. His mannerisms, bat flow is very good. Sometimes when I’m not batting well, I look at him and learn.”
Following his outstanding innings against New Zealand, Musheer emerged as the leading run-scorer at the U19 World Cup 2024. With a total of 194 runs in 3 matches and adding a century in the ongoing game, Musheer surpassed Pakistan’s Shahzaib Khan, who had 223 runs. Shahzaib is yet to bat in Pakistan’s ongoing game against Ireland.
