Lal Krishna Advani, a BJP veteran, will get the Bharat Ratna, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday. He was also congratulated by PM Modi on receiving the award in their conversation.
The Prime Minister said, “I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna,” in a post on X (previously Twitter). In our conversation, I also congratulated him on receiving this honor.”
“One of the most esteemed leaders of our day, he has made a huge contribution to India’s progress. His life began with grassroots labor and culminated in his current role as our Deputy Prime Minister, PM Modi stated.”
The Prime Minister went on to compliment the senior leader, stating that in his roles as India’s Home Minister and I&B Minister, he excelled. “He has consistently made outstanding, insightful parliamentary interventions.”
He claimed that Advani had established an excellent standard for political ethics during his decades-long career in public life, distinguished by his unshakable dedication to integrity and transparency.
“He has worked in an unmatched manner to promote cultural revival and national unity. I become really emotional when I see him receive the Bharat Ratna. PM Modi remarked, “I will always regard it as a privilege that I had so many chances to engage with and learn from him.”
The Political Career of Lal Krishna Advani: Timeline
LK Advani, who was born in Karachi, Pakistan, on November 8, 1927, has a varied life and career path. He enrolled in Dayaram Gidumal National College in Hyderabad during the Quit India movement in 1942, and in 1944 he began working as a teacher at Model High School in Karachi. He moved to Delhi in 1947 after the Partition.

He was the key organizer of RSS operations in several districts as the Karachi branch secretary from 1947 to 1951. Notably, Advani started the Swarna Jayanti Rath Yatra in 1997 to commemorate India’s Independence’s Golden Jubilee.
Some major turning points in his political career were holding the positions of Deputy Prime Minister from June 2002 to May 2004 and Home Minister from October 1999 to May 2004.
Mr. Advani has identified himself as the “charioteer” of the “rath yatra,” which started on September 25, 1990, in Somnath, Gujarat, and ended on December 6, 1992, with the destruction of the Babri mosque. He came back to Ayodhya on January 22nd to witness the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple being led by PM Modi, who was then his aide.
