On Friday, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issues Amazon a notice for allegedly selling sweets as ‘Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad,’ citing concerns over undisclosed manufacturer details and potential misleading claims in the marketing of the products.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) initiated action following a complaint by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), alleging deceptive trade practices by Amazon in the sale of sweets as ‘Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad.
“The CCPA states, ‘Enabling the sale of misrepresented food products online misleads consumers about genuine characteristics. Such practices influence purchase decisions, highlighting the importance of accurate product information,’ addressing concerns over deceptive practices in online food sales.”

Amazon Statement
“We have received a communication from CCPA regarding misleading product claims by certain seller(s) and investigating them for violations.”
An Amazon spokesperson said.
Amazon has a seven-day deadline to respond to the CCPA notice. Failure to comply may result in the initiation of necessary actions under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
